July 4th is a day commemorating the declaration of Independence of the United States from the British Colony. This day is also known as the birthday of America’s independence.
Why is being free so important?
America suffered unfairness and hostility from Great Britain. They were being taxed unfairly and many rules that the British empire put in place did not favor them in any way. They were living like slaves. One day, they decided it is time to rebel and fight for their freedom. The rebellion led into war that lasted for seven years before they finally attained total independence. Throughout the war, many suffered and died for the cause. Now, America has enjoyed and is enjoying many benefits of being free; they live as those who are free. They also celebrate that day in which they adopted the declaration of independence, 4th of July 1776. Freedom is very important and a vital part of life. No one can enjoy life without some level freedom. Jesus Christ knows this too, so he created us to be free. Gal.5:1 says, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” Christ came down to suffer and die so that we too, can enjoy the freedom God initially meant for us to have; the freedom to serve him. Our independence from sin and death was established on the day Christ died for our sins. We can now come to him as sons and daughters of the most High King [John 1:12], without fear or shame [1 Pet.2:6]. His blood that was shed on the cross for our sins has delivered us from destruction and set us free from the bondage of sin and from the hands of the enemy [Rev.1:5-6]
As we celebrate the independence of the country we are in, let us also celebrate the independence we have in Christ. Let us enjoy the freedom to live for God, our creator. Let us love God and one another and let us not indulge in fleshly desires [Gal.5:13]
