Selfless Act

Read: 1 Peter 3:8

I read a short story from “Our Daily Bread” devotion about a farmer in a small town whose farm was sold by the bank due to lack of payments. They’ve owned this farm for decades but unfortunately lost it. One day, the farmer’s son heard that the property is being sold in an auction. So, he saved some money in hopes to get his father’s property back.
On the day of the auction, the farmer’s son was there and was the first out of two hundred farmers to bid on his father’s property. He anxiously waited for a counter-bidder, but no one called out for a higher bid. The officiator slammed the gravel and shouted SOLD! to the farmer’s son!
Do you know what happened there? In this small town, everyone pretty much knows everyone and so when they saw that the farmer’s son placed a bid for his father’s property, they all remained silent and placed the boy’s need above theirs.

Selflessness is the kind of trait that should be seen in us as God’s children and as believers in Christ. Romans 12:10 says we should be devoted to one another in love. Show concerns for the needs of others. Care about others. Love others as you love yourself, Mark 12:31. There is a popular quote that states, “You don’t need a reason to help people”. Just help because 1) God demands it,  2) It is one of the fruits of the Spirit that we must strive to attain, and 3) It feels good to help others.

I pray that as you anticipate a positive change this year, selfless acts will be in your mind, loving others will be in your heart and the love you have for God will motivate you to do the right things.

Your change has come!
