The Jealous Spouse

Exodus 20:5, “Thou shall not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, …” Exodus 34:14, “For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:” 2 Corinthians 11:2, “For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.”

As these words dropped into my mind, I ponder on them. Then I went into the scripture to search for the content and context around the word “Jealous”.

You may be thinking that “Jealous” is a negative word but let us look at it in a positive dimension. A definition from the dictionary states that Jealous means fiercely protective or vigilant of one’s rights or possessions and the opposite of that is careless or unconcerned. The context in the biblical references to the word “Jealous” shows that God cares for us, He is concerned about us and about who we are. You and I are precious in His hands. So, do not look down on yourself.

Apostle Paul told the Corinthian believers that he is jealous over them with godly jealousy. The same message goes for us today as Christians. We have been espoused to one husband as a chaste virgin to Christ Jesus, who is the bridegroom as we are His bride. Our bodies are for Him, anything in that body system that is not functioning well, the blood of Jesus will wash them out. They will be washed out of your system, both spiritually and physically. All you need to know and accept is that you have been betrothed to a husband, Jesus Christ. Christ cares for you, He is concerned about you and He is jealous over your life.

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them (Ephesians 2:10). Your body, soul and spirit belong to Him alone and therefore honor Him with your life.

Prayer: Father God, we thank you because you are jealous over our lives, jealous enough to save, protect and preserve us all for yourself and your glory. Help us to remember that you will always be jealous over our lives in Jesus Christ Mighty Name. Amen
